Nationalists Revolts and the Revolt in Haiti

Creoles in the eighteenth century began to use the their new ideas to denounce the rule of Spanish and Portuguese monarchs and their peninsulares. Napoleon overthrew the monarchies of Spain and Portugal making them weak for creoles to be able to change. Then, in 1807 between 1825, a series of revolts enabled most of Latin America to become independent. The first revolt happened from 1791-1804. It was the Haiti revolt. Francois-Dominique Toussaint-Louverture led more than 100,000 slaves to revolt. The seized control of all Hispaniola, which is now called Haiti. Haiti was the first independent state in Latin America
